Barcelona – El Born/ La Ribera Districts

Two years ago when we were in Barcelona we learned that El Born/ La Ribera was transforming into the new happening district. Having stayed in this area we got to explore and found it to be one of our favorite spots to dine, wine and play! This past trip we stayed at the W Barcelona for the night on our way back from Mallorca and spent most of our time in El Born/ La Ribera after a hot lap through the Mercat de La Boqueria. Tastes of Mallorca

Mallorcan cuisine is just as beautiful as the scenery. Its fresh, flavorful and carefully prepared. We enjoyed eating dinners out and snacking during the day at the hotel and Nikki Beach. Here is our Mallorcan Food Story! Continue reading “Tastes of Mallorca”

Mallorca

So why did we pick Mallorca – why not? Mallorca is part of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean known for its beach resorts and protected coves. The island sits off the coast of Spain (a 30 minute flight from Barcelona) and is a popular holiday destination for Europeans. Yes Europeans – not Americans…which makes it that much better! The island is actually bigger than we expected and has very different terrain. Flat land, mountains and fertile plains. If this place isn’t on your list of travel destinations…it will be after this post! (We hope!) Continue reading “Mallorca”

Corn and Couscous Salad with Grilled Halloumi Cheese

Salads don’t have to be boring…especially Summer Salads.  T.W.O. loves combining new ingredients to make a delicious, savory, light dish that can be enjoyed at gatherings.  In this post, we will be combining Israeli couscous, corn and Halloumi cheese to make a light, refreshing  healthy salad! Day Trip to Cascais, Portugal

While in Lisbon, we decided to take a day trip to Cascais. Cascais is a small beach town that used to be the former residence of the royal family. It took about 40 minutes by train, from Cais do Sodre station and costs under €10 round-trip. Well worth it! The train ride reminded us of the train from Orange County, CA to San Diego, CA because you are traveling along the coast the entire journey. Continue reading “Day Trip to Cascais, Portugal”

White Peach Caprese with Arugula

In this post, we will be featuring a White Peach Caprese Salad with Arugula. Enjoy! Continue reading “White Peach Caprese with Arugula”

Lisbon Eats

T.W.O. had a fun time researching the food options in Lisbon and we weren’t disappointed with our selections when we got there! Lisbon has been noted for being the new hottest place for culinary chefs and foodies around the world. In the past couple years the classic Portuguese cuisine has been reinvented taking rustic vintage styles of cooking with new contemporary hipness. It’s not only in the food, but the décor as well. We made sure to choose our lunch and dinner spots very carefully. Hope you can try these places out when you visit Lisbon! Our rule of thumb…if the menu has pictures of the food it’s too touristy! HopDoddy Opening in Southern California!

Some of you might remember that we featured HopDoddy Burger Bar on our blog when we visited Austin in May 2014. (POST HERE) At that time there was speculation of opening one in Southern California and after a year and couple months – the news became true! The first California restaurant will open this Summer in Fashion Island, Newport Beach. We are so excited to check out the build-out and see if it lives up to the South of Congress, Austin location. Being a Tourist In Lisbon, Portugal

A glimpse of some neighborhoods of Lisbon:

Bairro Alto
This is a picturesque working class quarter dating from the 16th century that has traditionally been the city’s bohemian haunt of artists and writers. During the day, the streets are less crowded, but once night fall hits the Fado Houses are packed and restaurants filled with hungry people. Continue reading “Being a Tourist In Lisbon, Portugal”

Watermelon Pizza

imageWith 4th of July happening this week, T.W.O. has been testing recipes for their big family barbeque. Not only are the fireworks and celebrations the best part of the day – the menu is just as important. There will for sure be some barbecue meat, ice cream sandwiches, homemade ice cream and summer salads. This year, we are adding a watermelon pizza to the mix – it’s refreshing, light and easy to serve for the 4th! (Little preparation required.) Check out how to make this slice of deliciousness:

Watermelon Pizza

Ingredients:
– Seedless watermelon
– ½ cup balsamic reduction
– ½ cup feta, crumbled
– Sea Salt

Directions:
1. Slice the watermelon into thick round slices.
2. Plate the rounds and cut diagonally to make slices.
3. Drizzle with the balsamic reduction.
4. Sprinkle with feta and top with sea salt.
5. Grab a napkin and enjoy your watermelon pizza slice!

Another way to serve:
Instead of a pizza slice, you can cube the watermelon and place in a bowl. Top with balsamic, sea salt and add mint. It’s a great salad to add to your spread!
