Mallorca

So why did we pick Mallorca – why not? Mallorca is part of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean known for its beach resorts and protected coves. The island sits off the coast of Spain (a 30 minute flight from Barcelona) and is a popular holiday destination for Europeans. Yes Europeans – not Americans…which makes it that much better! The island is actually bigger than we expected and has very different terrain. Flat land, mountains and fertile plains. If this place isn’t on your list of travel destinations…it will be after this post! (We hope!)

ME Mallorca

We decided to stay at the ME Mallorca since it received positive reviews and was part of the Meliá Hotel Group. It’s a new, modern, trendy hotel that has a beautiful pool and beach. One of the major selling points was that it sat right next to Nikki Beach. It was the place to be during the day. The rooms were fantastic – we had the Chic Suite which is the only way to go! Great balcony overlooking the Mediterranean and large room. The bed was hands down the best hotel bed we had slept in. The only downfall of the ME was that there was nothing else around the area except for Magaluf. Magaluf was not our scene, but we were okay with that since Puerto Portals and Palma were a short cab ride away for fantastic dinners and nightlife.

Nikki Beach

If you have been to a Nikki Beach before, you know exactly what we experienced. It’s one big beach party with adults! (Okay – some children were there with their hip parents!) I’m not sure I have to explain the scene – just take a look at these photos and the music video. Purely Amazing!

Palma

Palma de Mallorca is a stylish, sophisticated capital that’s located in the south shore of the island. Half of the island’s population lives in this lively city that has many great shops, restaurants and nightlife. It’s also home to the famous Palma Cathedral (La Seu) – a Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral which can be seen from almost anywhere in the city and the harbor. Make sure to walk along the ‘boardwalk’ to the harbor to see the gorgeous yachts.

Sailing Mallorca

We took a day trip and sailed the south of Mallorca, departing from Palma. It was a beautiful day on the water seeing the coastline and exploring secluded coves. We stopped three times during the trip and were able to jump in the water and snorkel the breathtaking-blue Mediterranean waters. Our captain served us a beautiful meal cooked by his mom – traditional Mallorcan cuisine. We booked this excursion through our hotel and would highly suggest making this trip or any sailing/ boating trip around Mallorca.

Puerto Portals

And we found the good life! Puerto Portals is a marina attached to the town of Portal Nous. Here you will find yachts, yachts and mega yachts. It’s a great place for shopping, people watching and dinner. It’s a mini – Monte Carlo if you will. We loved coming here at night and enjoying the delicious food and beautiful views. The nightlife was fun as well with more people our age and above…classy scene!

A Mallorcan Holiday!

Next time we visit Mallorca we would like to spend a week with family and friends cruising around the island by the way of boat and stop in ports for the night. Who wants to join??
