Chamonix and Mont Blanc

One the the highlights from our visit in Geneva, was the day trip to Chamonix and Mont Blanc.  We booked this full-day tour using Viator and can be viewed HERE.  Find out more of what we did and saw on our lovely day in France/ top of Europe.

Video Highlights

Tour

The TOUR itself was really well done – meeting points clearly stated, bus was clean and the tour guide Neal was fantastic.  Even though organized tours aren’t really our deal we would highly suggest doing this tour since the only time you actually felt like you were on a ‘tour’ was getting on and off the bus.  Once you were off the bus, you were your own and could do things at your own pace.  (You still have the option to do things as a group though too).  As for the different options of the tour – do EVERYTHING minus the lunch ( so book the Cable Car and Mer de Glace, Train).  The $200 you spend will get you the most lovely experience on top of Mont Blanc, through a beautiful ski town of Chamonix, in a ice tunnel and views of the largest glacier in France. Scroll down and you will see why!

Chamonix

Walking around Chamonix was charming and lively.  People were outside enjoying the sunshine, eating lunch and shopping.  We could only imagine what it looked like in winter time….winter wonderland!!! Since we didn’t do the organized lunch we grabbed a quick baguette sandwich from a bakery….favorite to-go food while on the go.  It was delicious…even picked up an almond croissant for dessert…had to, when in France!!!

Mont Blanc

Mont Blanc (White Mountain) is the highest mountain in the Alps and the highest in Europe west of Russia’s Caucasus peaks. It rises 4,808 m above sea level and is ranked 11th in the world in topographic prominence.  Our experience on top of the mountain exceeded our expectations – we climbed stairs, stood on glass boxes, walked through an snow tunnel and rode trams at a vertical steep we have never been before.  One of the most memorable moments from the trip.  Maybe it helped that it was a beautiful day – blue skies!

Mer de Glace

Mer de Glace is a 3.4 mile long valley glacier that sits 660 ft deep.  It is regarded as the longest and largest glacier in France, and the second longest in the Alps after the Aletsch Glacie.

What a fun day in France we had – even saw Italy and Switzerland from the top! Don’t miss this day trip if you are in the area….thank you Viator for a lovely experience!!

Cheers,

  1. Wow! Stunning. Switzerland in the summer and winter are both magical. The ice tunnel is insane!
