Capri

Ciao Capri! An island of beauty, glitz, delicious food, friendly locals and brilliant handmade leather sandals.  With a jagged coast, famous faraglioni (sea stacks) and numerous grottos, Capri stole our hearts!  Capri was part of our “last minute pivot” so we booked this portion of the trip less than 24 hours before departing the States.  A little stressful, but we ended up with a great itinerary for the three days we were on the island.  Enjoy our adventures around Capri!

Quick Tips:

  • Arrange for your bags to be picked up from the ferry arriving in Marina Grande.  This can be done through your hotel and will seem expensive, but it is WELL WORTH IT!  The bags are taken up the hill and delivered to your hotel.  You will take a taxi up to Capri Town and then will have to walk to the hotel.  There are no cars allowed in Capri Town, so if you don’t want to hear the clunk, cluck of your luggage rolling down the stone streets of Capri – book the service!
  • Make reservations at beach clubs (sun loungers and lunch) and dinner well in advanced.
  • Hills.  Yes, it’s a hike down to the beaches from Capri Town and up as well! You can take a combination of taxis and boat taxis, but we opted for the exercise so we could eat!

Hotel La Residenza Capri

Having booked this hotel last minute, La Residenza, was WAY beyond our expectations.  The location is perfect – a little off the hustle and bustle of the main street and a 30 second walk to Hotel Quisisana.  Upon arrival our room was ready and we were pleasantly surprised to hear we were upgraded to a suite.  As the doors opened, our jaws dropped as we saw how big the room was – a bedroom, two nooks, sitting area, large bathroom, wrap around deck with a jacuzzi and a good size closet.  Oh and we had a view of the sea!  I mean – WELCOME TO CAPRI !! Besides the room, the staff onsite were so friendly and helpful. They assisted with our bookings for restaurants, the boat and beach clubs.  It was nice walking through the doors seeing friendly faces and being treated like we were the only ones staying there. They remembered our breakfast and drink order and knew what our apertivo snacks we liked.  Can we move in?  Highly suggest staying at La Residenza – we will be there again soon!

La Fontelina

You’ve probably see La Fontelina in many photographs – the iconic blue and white stripe umbrellas with matching chairs set alongside the sea.  Picture it? Yes, well we finally got to see it for ourselves! It was even more of a lovely setting than photographed.  Since we had booked a week out, we didn’t get to enjoy the sun loungers and beach as they were all taken.  It was okay because we had arrived later in the day from Ischia and were hungry for lunch.  Three o’clock lunch – let’s go! We were seated in the perfect location over looking the umbrellas and sea.  Our meal was delightful! Started with a tomato salad, pasta with rockfish and final course – whole sea bream.  A meal to remember! Don’t miss out on a visit here!

Bagni Tiberio

Bagni Tiberio is on the other side of the island and can only be reached by boat. We arranged a boat to give us a tour of the island and our final stop was at Bagni Tiberio.  If you don’t have a boat, you can collect the Bagni Tiberio taxi boat from Marina Grande.  The beach club is lovely and rocky.  Highly suggest bringing water shoes here. We had some funny laughs trying to get in the water! (Those photos won’t be published!) Our lunch was wonderful and we enjoyed our course meal.  Tomato salad, seafood pasta and whole fish.  Final course – a shot of limoncello and espresso.  If you want to visit the other side of the island, suggest Bagni Tiberio! Its very kid friendly too!

La Scoglio delle Sirene

La Scoglio is a beach club in Marina Piccola which is a walk down the hill from Capri Town.  We had sun loungers for the day and lunch at three o’clock.  Our table at lunch was set alongside the sea where we enjoyed a lovely lobster pasta meal.  We were shown the live lobster before they cooked  – Fresh is an understatement! It was a beautiful day enjoying the sun, swimming in the sea, sipping on some vino and spritz! Though we enjoyed ourselves, we probably would skip this beach club next time. There are a couple more along Marina Piccola we would like to visit!

Le Grottelle

Le Grottelle is a nice walk through town to this beautiful restaurant with wonderful views. We arrived when it was dark, but heard it is a great place to go around sunset.  The style of the restaurant is more of a trattoria with friendly staff and delicious food.  We had a lovely meal – pasta with tomatoes and a pizza bianco.  We had saved room for dessert – an affogato! Highly recommend Le Grottelle and we will be back!

La Capannina

A restaurant that has been around since 1931, La Capannina was a fun restaurant to dine at our first night.  Its authentic, famous and fun environment.  Upon arrival you are served some apertivos – crudité and  bruschetta.  Our next course was a truffle, tomato, burrata salad followed by pasta with tomatoes.  Final course – fresh fish! As the night went on, the waiters brought out music instruments to the large group that was sitting next to us.  Music got loud and we all danced! It was a very fun evening which ended up with new friends! The table next to us were from Belgium and we ended up joining them at Anema e Core.

Grottino

Grottino was a recommendation from the front desk at our hotel. He was friends with the owner and told us we would enjoy a classic meal in a relaxed homey venue where locals dined. And that’s exactly what it was! We had started with baked aubergine and ended with seafood pasta that was presented to us in a cast-iron pot.  Doesn’t get hotter than that! After we put on our bibs, we enjoyed our last meal in Capri! Thank you for hosting us Grottino!

Anema e Core

A famous nightclub on the island – Amema e Core known for the live music and the tambourines! We had gone here with our new Belgium friends and enjoyed a night of dancing, singing and laughing.  Gianluigi Lembo is the famous singer that sings every night.  He even invited T on stage to do a song with him (no singing, just playing the tambourines! Haha).  A week later on that very same stage, Katy Perry sang with him which is one of many celebrities thats been up there.  Add T to the list! What a night to remember at Anema e Core.

Piazzetta Capri

Piazzetta Capri is a lively square in Capri Town. In the morning, people are enjoying coffee and pastries while reading the newspaper or catching up with friends.  In the afternoon you will find people enjoying an apertivo which spills into the evening time.   It’s a great spot to sit, relax and enjoy life.

Hotel Quisisana

Every night we would stop at Hotel Quisisana and grab a drink before dinner. The patio was the perfect location to people watch and sip on a dirty martini or their famous Bellini.  Everyone was dressed to the nines and in a happy mood. I don’t know if it was the drinks or the fact that it was the atmosphere.  Maybe both?!! Either way, we loved our nightly drink at Hotel Quisisana and would highly suggest going here instead of the piazzetta (at night).

Da Costanzo

Our very first stop on the island (besides the taxi) was Da Costanzo.  The family has been making sandals since 1963. Its an institution and in our minds the best shop on the island. We enjoyed picking out our design and the leather for our custom sandals. We enjoyed it so much we went there every day to get more! (For us and for some family and friends!) They are now our Capri family and we can’t wait to visit them again next summer! Grazie Millie!!!

Grazia & Marica Vozza

Tucked away in the small streets of Capri Town, passed the tennis courts, you will find Grazia & Marica Vozza.  The owers are twin sisters who began designing in 1999 and in 2006 the gallery store opened on the island.  They sell custom made pieces including bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings.  Our purchases – a bracelet and earrings which we LOVE! So special since not many people have these items back in the states.  Shhh – don’t spread the word! Even if you aren’t looking for jewelry, its well worth visiting the gallery.

GRAZIE MILLE CAPRI!
